In-Person Services
Frequently Asked Questions

+ How do I book in?

If you would like to book your seat at an In-Person service, click the events tab at the top of the page and select your location.

+ Is it safe?

Kings has been working incredibly hard to make sure that all our buildings and meetings are Covid-19 secure. We have studied the Government guidance as well as looked at how other churches are adapting to make sure we follow the guidance correctly in every aspect of church life. Our buildings have all been deep-cleaned in preparation for re-opening and we are increasing the cleaning frequency in all locations.

It has long been a value at Kings that only our best is good enough for God! He is a God worth serving well, in this area as in every other. Your safety and the safety of all our community is important and will continue to be.

+ Doesn’t the ‘Rule of 6’ affect churches?

Public worship can continue. There is an exemption that covers places of worship making it possible for more than six people to gather for worship and for support groups. Note that people should continue to social distance (remain 2 metres, or 1 metre if wearing a mask) from anyone not in their household or social bubble.

Click here to be directed to the 'gov.uk' website for more guidance.

+ Why do I need to book in?

In order to maintain social distancing within all our buildings, we’ve had to reduce the numbers of people who can attend, as everyone now needs a 1 metre (or 2 metres, for those exempt from wearing a face covering) space around them.

That means we need to manage how many people come to our church services so it’s vital that people book in to help us manage this safely. Using our online system means we can make sure we’re ready to receive you, we’ve got your details for Test and Trace and should the service be ‘sold-out’ we can run a fair system of allocating people to the next service.

+ If someone has Covid-19 at church, will we all have to isolate?

The NHS are requesting that you self-isolate if you have been in ‘close contact’ with anyone with the virus.

“Close contact means: having face-to-face contact with someone less than 1 metre away (this will include times where you have worn a face covering or a face mask) spending more than 15 minutes within 2 metres of someone travelling in a car or other small vehicle with someone (even on a short journey)” - Quoted from www.gov.uk.

The measures we have put in place at church are there to make sure that even if someone shows symptoms after a service they won’t have infected others. The link above will take you to the full Government information on NHS Test and Trace.

+ Will Kings be collecting Test and Trace data?

It is a legal requirement for us to collect contact details for everyone coming into our buildings during this time. We are using an online system called ‘Churchsuite’ to store this information as this complies with all legislation as regards GDPR. If you are a guest, your details will be stored for 21 days as required. If we already have your details, your information will continue to be stored securely and you can update what details we hold through your MyChurchsuite app.

We also have a QR code displayed at each of our buildings, which you can scan with your NHS test and trace app to say you’ve been at our building.

+ Can I come to church if my children’s school bubble is isolating?

If your child’s class or year group has been sent home from school and been asked to isolate, then that child should not come to church or attend activities. The rest of the household can come - we are praying for our families as they face these logistical challenges, please do get in contact with us if you need support.

If anyone in your household has a new persistent cough, high temperature or sudden loss of taste or smell, you should not attend church. Please stay at home and contact the NHS for a test. Call 119 or follow this link here.

+ Can I sit with my friend if she’s in a social bubble with me?

People who live alone, or are single parents are allowed to form a support bubble with one other household. You would then be considered as a single household and could sit with each other. Please note that if you are not living alone (e.g. sharing accommodation with other single people, lodging with a family) you cannot form a social bubble for any other reason. Our Kings team are trying to support social distancing guidelines for your safety, please support them in this.

+ Can I give my friend a lift to church?

It’s a lovely idea, but you do need to be aware that it does put you in close contact with that person, so if they or you get symptoms of a persistent cough, high temperature or a sudden loss of taste or smell, you both have to isolate. You can reduce the risk of infection by wearing a face covering or mask, sitting the person in the back, having the windows down (at least a bit) to ventilate the car and limiting the journey to less than 15 mins.

Please remember even if you arrive in the same car, you will need to socially distance in the auditorium, but as you’ve arrived at the same time it’ll be a few seats along from each other.

+ Does everyone need to wear a mask?

In England, you must wear a face covering in a place of worship. Wearing a face covering can massively help reduce the risk of infection and keep the people around us safe. At Kings we want to promote the wearing of face coverings, and welcome people who are exempt. If you are exempt from wearing a face covering, we will give you a lanyard to help others give you the 2 metres space you will need and help our Kings team seat you safely.

If you are worried about this issue, please remember staying 2 metres away will keep us safe and that Jesus held loving our neighbour was the most valuable command after loving God.

Exemptions to this are listed below:

  • Children under the age of 11.
  • People who cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability.
  • Employees of indoor settings (or people acting on their behalf, such as someone leading part of a prayer service).
  • Police officers and other emergency workers, given that this may interfere with their ability to serve the public.
  • Where putting on, wearing or removing a face covering will cause you severe distress.
  • If you are speaking to or providing assistance to someone who relies on lip reading, clear sound or facial expressions to communicate.
  • To avoid harm or injury, or the risk of harm or injury, to yourself or others.

All the exemptions are taken from the gov.uk website. You can view them by clicking here.

If you are struggling with anxiety around wearing a mask, this website can be really helpful - click here.

+ What kind of mask do I need to wear?

“In the context of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, a face covering is something which safely covers the nose and mouth. You can buy reusable or single-use face coverings. You may also use a scarf, bandana, religious garment or hand-made cloth covering but these must securely fit round the side of the face.” Quoted from www.gov.uk.

Kings is happy for you to be creative and make your own! Or wear a disposable one - whatever you are most comfortable with.

+ Will there be children’s provision?

Kings believes children are a valuable part of our church, we want to see them grow and thrive as members of our campuses. What type of children’s provision can be provided is dependent on the number of spaces, team and children in each campus, look out for information coming from your specific campus on this subject or ring the campus Pastor for more details.

Where a Giants programme is not being provided, your children are welcome to attend with you*, they will need to remain with you from the time you arrive, during the service (which will be around an hour), and as you leave as well. You may want to consider bringing resources with you to entertain them as you feel the need.

*Except in Blackpool. The venue restrictions means the capacity is severely limited and Kings is requesting that children are not booked in to allow as many adults as possible to benefit from the provision.

This is an area we are passionate about, so please stay connected as we really care about our children and getting our provision right. The information is therefore likely to change as we move forward.

+ Can I sing?

The Government guidance is as follows “People should avoid singing, shouting and raising voices. This is because of the potential for increased risk of transmission from aerosol and droplets.” Quoted from www.gov.uk.

We are allowed to have music played by our worship team, but we cannot encourage you to participate currently.

+ Can I use the toilets?

Yes of course if you need to. Please note the toilets are cleaned before and after each service, but not between users, so please wash your hands for 20 seconds or more, using the soap available. Please make sure you follow any one-way systems in place as you go to the toilets and return to your seat. For community safety we are trying to reduce movement around the buildings to the minimum needed. If you can avoid using our facilities, it means less touching of surfaces like door handles, etc and less passing other people which is a positive.

+ Why doesn't Kings Church do temperature checks?

We have studied the guidance on safe practice and our reasoning is as follows. Maintaining social distance and wearing a face covering are effective ways to minimise infection risk, while temperature checks are not as reliable a method. We are not required to do this, because it is a less effective measure and may inhibit us welcoming people and maintaining their social distance as they move through our buildings.
