CAN I HAVE SOME MORE?

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than we all ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20

One of my favourite childhood books and films is Oliver Twist. Oliver Twist was left alone as a young boy when his Mother died in the street. No one knew who his Mother was, which left no one to care for Oliver. He was sent to the workhouse, and like the other boys in the same situation as Oliver, they were fed nothing but a small bowl of gruel and they were hungry!  The boys held a discussion amongst themselves and resolved that one of them would bravely ask the master for more gruel at the next evening meal.

As planned, after the boys had eaten their first bowl of gruel, they whispered and winked at Oliver who was desperate with hunger. He rose from the table and advanced to the master, with his dish and spoon in hand, saying: “Please sir, can I have some more?” Everyone was paralysed with wonder at what would happen next. The master was furious and, for those of us that know that story, Oliver was not given more gruel but was punished and thrown out of the orphanage.

This story of Oliver brings back many happy childhood memories, but as I’ve considered the verse above in Ephesians 3 it got me thinking…. How often do we approach God, like Oliver approached the master? Do we sometimes allow our nerves to make us hesitant in approaching our Father in heaven? Do we wonder if we’re asking for too much, or deep down even wonder if we have the right to ask God for anything?

As our 21 Days of Prayer have now come to an end, God has challenged me about being more specific and even bolder as I approach him. I have believed for things that can only be ‘of God’! So I know that when the answer arrives it will only be from Him.

I am waiting with anticipation for the time I get to share my praise report!

I don’t know what you’re praying for today. Maybe it’s about a job situation, a broken relationship, a loved one to return to God, a longed-for child, a spouse or something else. Can I challenge you to keep praying bold, specific prayers? God is listening and He can do immeasurably more than we will ask or imagine.

PRAY NOW!
